The Rock-n-Roll Express were wildly popular at their peak although I always found myself cheering for The Midnight Express for some reason even though they were supposed to be the "bad guys". Do you think if The Rock-N-Roll express had gone to WWF at their peak they would have had high level success or been lost in the mix?
It kind of depends on when they came in. If it was around 1985-86-ish, they wouldn't get a long tag title run or anything, but would have been highlighted against teams like the Hart Foundation and the Dream Team. They'd be too small to really supplant the Bulldogs as the top babyface unit, though.
If they tried around 1987-88, it would have been much harder. The WWF tag division was stacked at that time, and the Express probably would have a hard time breaking through.
One thing that would be different is that if the Rock N' Roll Express were in the WWF, the Fed probably wouldn't give the Rockers a second glance. That would have hugely changed the future main-event scene.
Interesting insight related to The Rockers! I think perhaps in WWF The Rock-n-Roll Express would have been split off at some point and Morton would been used in some capacity as a singles wrestler. He always had a strong connection with fans from my observations and I thought he was good as a heel too.
I really like the work of his son, Kerry Morton, in NWA and independents. He has a lot of charisma being a cocky heel, is solid in the ring and still in his early ‘20s. I expect if he pursues it that he will end up in either WWE or AEW before the end of the decade. I think he’s got the all-around potential to do well in either long term and is far from his peak right now.
