The Wrestling Society Xperience - WSXtra Episode Four (2/27/07)
Fun tag action with D.I.F.H. vs. Team Dragon Gate, and a main event that certainly existed.
WSXtra - Episode Four
Good day!
The cold open sees Lacey going over her notes for tonight when an angry Human Tornado storms in (ha ha, GET IT?). He confirms that 6-Pac was the dastardly knave who attacked him backstage before his match earlier tonight and challenges him to fisticuffs next week!
Lacey and Fabian Kaelin welcome us proper, then recap the then-unnamed Ricky Banderas hurling the heavily-edited fireball at Vampiro. The pixelation made it look like a crappy Dragon Ball Z edit someone made in 2001, set to something by Creed.
Team Dragon Gate vs. D.I.F.H.
About damn time we got some more Genki Horiguchi and Masato Yoshino. Should be a really fun set of opponents for them, too.
Jimmy Jacobs starts with Horiguchi, with Jacobs surprisingly getting the upper hand, culminating with a nice flying headscissors. Jacobs looks to hug Tyler Black, but Black opts to tag in and trade chops with Yoshino. The latter zooms around the ring and into an armdrag, but he quickly fires back with a sling blade. Dragon Gate hits a blazing double-team dropkick sequence for two, then Horiguchi gets a tornado DDT for another near-fall. The future Seth Rollins hits a flying back kick to escape a German suplex, and it’s EMOTIONALLY SECURE TAG JIMMY JACOBS!
Jacobs hits a Black-assisted spear into Horiguchi, then Black lands a MASSIVE frog splash, but Yoshino breaks up the pin. Yoshino fights off both guys by himself, then Horiguchi springboards in with a dropkick on the future Zombie Princess for two. Springboard moonsault for Horiguchi misses, allowing D.I.F.H. to hit their senton/Landslide combo for the pin!
The Take: Another entertaining, short sprint here. I’m always happy to see Team Dragon Gate, Black continues to show a lot of potential and athleticism at this stage of his career, and Jacobs continues to be a terrific worker while getting the character stuff over. The idea to pair him with Black was very wise. I just wished the match was a bit more ‘balls to the wall’ as I feel like both teams could really deliver a high-level spotfest.
The Vibes: Definitely some advanced vibes.
Post-match, Jacobs hugs Black several times, but Dragon Gate refuses an embrace. Jacobs settles for hugging a bunch of fans.
The hosts then recap the Keepin’ It Gangsta vs. That 70’s Team match from earlier. Kaelin sounds like an absolute putz when talking about the former.
We catch up backstage with Keepin’ It Gangsta, who run afoul of Luke Hawx & Alkatrazz. They get into a scuffle to set up a match between the teams on next week’s WSXtra.
I will say, one thing that WSXtra did well was advance storylines and set up new feuds and matches for both the web show and the TV broadcast. It made what could be a throwaway supplementary show more important.
Jack Evans vs. Markus Riot
This is the payoff for Evans kicking Riot in the testicles last week.
Riot, who the announcers claim idolizes Evans, is dressed almost exactly like him. It’s basically the “Spider-Man pointing at himself” meme.
Thankfully, Evans removes his shirt so they’re easier to tell apart. They exchange kicks and flippity-doos before Riot snatches a Frankensteiner. He soon runs into a handspring kick from Evans, then Jack hits a springboard 450 plancha to the outside! Back in, Evans gets a double-stomp, but Riot gets the knees up to block a moonsault. Evans hits a spinning kick, but Riot responds with a spinning lariat for two. Riot hits a release German suplex and a corner dropkick for a near-fall. Seconds later, Evans gets a Shining Ninja (basically, he steps onto his opponent’s bent knee like a Shining Wizard, but he turns it into a poison rana).
Evans flips out of another German suplex attempt, then hits a buisaku knee. Evans then lands a twisting standing moonsault for another near-fall. Riot dodges a 630 and hits a flying kick, but Evans nails a fisherman’s buster (take a drink) and scores with the 630 this time for three.
Jack celebrates with some breakdancing.
The Take: I wasn’t super into this one, mainly because Riot was doing Evans-style spots at half the speed and batshit insanity factor. I guess that plays into the story of Riot stanning Evans, but Riot didn’t seem like he was ready for something like this, leading to some awkward execution and sequences. Evans hit some cool stuff, but that’s about it.
Evans moves to 3-0, the best record in the company so far. MTV was fairly high on him, and that shows in his booking.
The Vibes: Fairly weak.
After running down next week’s line-up, we again see the fireball of promotional death and Banderas telling Vampiro to look at his scarred visage.
NEXT WEEK: We hope for an update on the condition of Vampiro! Plus, The Filth & The Fury take on Team Dragon Gate, 6-Pac answers Human Tornado’s challenge, and musical guest Jibbs takes stage!
