The Wrestling Society Xperience - WSXtra Episode Nine (3/14/07)
Plenty of tag team action on the penultimate WSXtra!
WSXtra - Episode Nine
Good day!
The cold open is basically a replay of Aaron Aguilera challenging The Cartel to the Piranha Deathmatch next week.
Lacey and Fabian Kaelin waste no time in throwing it to our first match.
Trailer Park Boyz vs. Keepin’ It Gangsta
The Boyz blindside Babi Slymm before the bell and double-team Ruckus for a quick near-fall, then Josh Raymond hits a nice lionsault and a neckbreaker for another pair of two-counts. Nate Webb checks in and hits a full nelson into a facebuster-type move for two. Dancing legdrop gets two, but Ruckus fires back with a handspring flipping kick, and it’s soon HOT TAG BABI SLYMM. He runs wild on the Boyz and hits a big time lariat on Jug.
Ruckus tags back in, and it’s RAZZLE DAZZLE on Webb! He attempts one on Raymond, but Josh counters with a Taliban Backpack for three! The Boyz, who are on a bit of a roll, celebrate at the announce desk. Nate then dances atop the bling ladder. Needs more “Teenage Dirtbag”.
The Take: Nothing bad, but nothing overly special; just a quick formula match to give the Trailer Park Boyz another win.
The Vibes: Very mild.
That 70’s Team vs. D.I.F.H.
Each team has a victory over the other, so it’s time for ye olde rubber match.
Tyler Black is rocking shorts this time, a departure from the black trunks we’re used to. He tosses Jimmy Jacobs into a spear on both opponents to start, then they double-team Joey Ryan for a near-fall. Jacobs works a wristlock, but Black, not sensing enough aggression from Jimmy, interjects. He throws Jacobs into a ‘rana on Ryan for two, then we get a roll-up sequence that gives us YET MORE GODDAMN JOEY RYAN ASS.
Disco Machine clotheslines Jacobs, allowing That 70’s Team to take over. Double gourdbuster gets two, then Disco works Jacobs over for a bit. Ryan tags in and applies some baby oil. He nails a dropkick and tags Disco back in, but Jacobs fights back and hits a forward-falling neckbreaker. Ryan and Black come in without tags and start clobbering each other, then they end up suplexing each other out of the ring. In short order, Black comes back in, and it’s Kiss 2 Kill on Disco for the three!
The Take: This was better than the other match this week as both teams worked well together (as they should after three outings), and they told a bit more of a story here, even if the normal structure wasn't there. The D.I.F.H. team continues to be one of the best things WSX did.
One observation I have is that the Joey Ryan baby oil spots don’t really pay off with anything, so there’s no point to them other than him just being weird. At least when Michael Nakazawa did it, grappling him became difficult and guys slipped and slid off of him. If you’re going to do that kind of goofy bullshit, commit to it!
The Vibes: Fairly moderate.
Lacey and Fabian talk about the tag division and the four-way tag match coming up on next week’s WSXtra. It’s D.I.F.H. vs. Trailer Park Boyz vs. That 70’s Team vs. Luke Hawx & Alkatrazz! The winner of that contest will apparently be added to the Tag Team Title tournament that will totally happen! They may as well have been offered a role alongside Jim Carrey in The Mask II.
A video of Team Dragon Gate’s EXPLODING CAGE TIMEBOMB DEATHMATCH challenge to The Filth & The Fury is shown. We then end things with unseen footage of the Jack Evans vs. Human Tornado match, giving us the action that was cut due to the commercial break. It was quite good and would have made the actual match even better.
This episode differed quite a bit from a lot of these webisodes, as the lengthy recaps were eschewed in favor of matches and deathmatch hype, with the tag division getting the lion's share of the spotlight. We also heard about the tag title tournament that was not to be.
NEXT TIME: It’s the TV broadcast finale of Wrestling Society X, and it’s DOUBLE DEATHMATCH DAY! The Cartel vs. Los Pochos Guapos got at it in a Piranha Deathmatch, and Team Dragon Gate faces The Filth & The Fury in an Exploding Cage Timebomb Deathmatch! Also, musical guest NEW FOUND GLORY!
