The Wrestling Society Xperience - WSX Episode Ten (Unaired)
A literally explosive series finale!
Wrestling Society X - Episode TEN!
Good day!
We’re at the endgame, folks! Today, we have the season (and, well, series) finale, and it’s a DOOZY. Wrestling Society X ends their TV broadcast run with a literal bang as we are treated to a main event Exploding Cage Timebomb Deathmatch! If THAT wasn’t enough, we kick things off with a match featuring a piranha tank! WSX is feeling their Big Japan oats here.
A couple of members of musical guest New Found Glory join Bret Ernst and Kris Kloss at the comms desk.
Kloss throws it to a video package recapping the Los Pochos Guapos/Cartel beef.
PIRANHA TANK DEATHMATCH: Los Pochos Guapos vs. The Cartel (Lil Cholo and Delikado)
After some recent bad blood and The Cartel’s propensity for leaving dead fish on their victims, it all comes to a head in an aquarium that is totally filled with totally legitimate piranhas. Totally. Legit. The match ends when a competitor ends up in the tank with the fishies for a three-count.
Kaos and Aaron Aguilera charge the ring and take out El Jefe and Mongol, then it’s a brawl with Delikado and Cholo. Kaos hits a tope con hilo onto Mongol while Aguilera hits an impressive back elbow on both Cholo and Delikado. Bossman Slam variant from Aguilera hits Delikado, as does an assisted elbow drop from Kaos. Kaos nearly backdrops Cholo into the fish tank, then The Cartel cleverly blocks another attempt at tanking with the use of a pallet.
Delikado hits a tornado DDT on Aguilera, then goes at it with Kaos. The entire Cartel tries to dunk Aguilera head-first into the tank so he can bob for piranhas.
Kaos makes the save, then hits a nice moonsault press onto Delikado. Cholo’s arse is almost in the tank, and Aguilera tries to push him further in. Ewww, you never go ass to piranha.
Delikado crotches Kaos in the corner and kicks the rope into Aguilera’s junk, allowing Cholo opportunity to get out of the tank. Double-team baseball slide dropkick from the Cartel hits Kaos while Aguilera fights off the non-legal Cartellers. Aguilera saves Kaos from being fish food, then kicks the stairs into Cholo’s lower half.
Kaos introduces a table, which Aguilera powerbombs Cholo through! However, Aguilera accidentally clotheslines Kaos into the tank! The Cartel uses the pallet to prevent Kaos from escaping, and the ref counts three!
The Cartel remains undefeated as a team to close out the season, and further discord between Los Pochos is sewn. Kaos gets out of the tank with urgency.
The Take: Despite my earlier assurances that these were TOTALLY LEGIT PIRANHAS, they actually weren’t.
I’m sorry to have lied to you.
Definitely the best Cartel outing so far as the teases and spots were rather fun, and the zippy pace of the show ensures that the match didn’t outstay its welcome. Kaos wasn’t overly sloppy here, and Aguilera’s not a bad hoss.
Normally, I’d complain about these repetitive issues with Los Pochos, but at least this time it was out of a genuine miscue and not Aguilera being absentminded. That feels like evolution, which I appreciate.
The Vibes: Pleasantly fishy.
Backstage, Lacey interviews Scorpio Sky…or at least tries to, as Vampiro walks in. Scorpio talks some shit, resulting in a chop from Vampiro. Vamp chases Sky to the ringside area and pulls down his pants! Rude! Vampiro, feeling serious ANGST, assaults several officials who try to intervene.
Several roster members come out to act as chokeslam and nutshot fodder. Vampiro grabs a ringside attendant, screams that he wants Ricky Banderas, and chokelsams him through a table. With his ears burning, Banderas himself runs out and goes at it with Vampiro, who gets the best of that exchange. They brawl around the WSX Bunker™ for a brief moment until we cut away to a developing backstage situation!
Matt Sydal eavesdrops on a conversation between beau Lizzy Valentine and prospective girl-stealer 6-Pac. Having had enough of getting cucked, he knocks down the door and goes at it with Waltman…
…but the much larger 6-Pac beats the crap out of Sydal.
Meanwhile, Lacey is with Jack Evans and Human Tornado. She announces that a NEW championship is coming to WSX, one to be contested for by high-flyers and daredevils. Evans and Tornado are set to face off in a match with no time limit to determine the first champion.
That could have been a fun X-Division-style title should the promotion have lasted beyond this season, but I wish guys like Evans, Tornado, and Sydal were wrestling for the WSX Championship instead of it being stuck in the Vampiro Vortex.
EXPLODING CAGE TIMEBOMB DEATHMATCH: Team Dragon Gate vs. The Filth & The Fury
As explained by the helpful video package and the promo last week, Horiguchi and Yoshino were looking to avenge an earlier loss against Teddy Hart and Matt Cross.
Sakoda temporarily prevents The F & The F from entering the cage, then attacks Cross when Teddy makes his way in.
Teddy backflips off the top rope, not aware that he has been isolated by Sakoda’s attack on Cross. He gets immediately swarmed by Dragon Gate. Tedward comes back with a rolling double clothesline and fights off both opponents until Yoshino lands a sling blade. Horiguchi hits a nasty Beach Break as Cross ascends the cage from the outside. M-Dogg makes it to the top and cross-bodies onto both Dragon Gate fellas!
Cross does the white meat babyface comeback, then counters a Yoshino powerbomb with a Frankensteiner. Teddy then jumps from the top rope to the TOP OF THE CAGE to deliver an Asai moonsault! Good lord. Everyone lays in a heap as Wrestling Society X ROLLS ON…
…and we’re back! During the commercials, Team Dragon Gate dominated until Hart came back with a double-underhook destroyer. The Filth & The Fury scale the cage, resulting in Hart hitting Open Hart Surgery on Horiguchi while Cross misses a shooting star press. Yoshino hits a nasty missile dropkick onto Hart, then Sakoda hops into the ring and DDT’s an intervening referee. Teddy climbs onto the platform above the ring, where the bomb detonator is located, but he opts to hit a shooting star press onto everyone in the ring! Jiminy jillikers!
Matt Cross attempts a handspring elbow, but both opponents dodge, allowing him to careen into the exploding cage wall!
Sakoda then throws a heavely-edited fireball at Teddy!
Sakoda then throws the referee into a blinded Hart, who powerbombs him into the exploding cage! The announcers think the ref died. Hart gets tossed into the cage by Yoshino (with a healthy assist from Sakoda), leading to another kaboom. Yoshino detonates the time bomb! Team Dragon Gate escapes the ring, leaving Cross, Hart, and the ref! The timer counts down and boom goes the dynamite.
That was an earth-shattering kaboom, too. AEW Revolution 2021 or Foley vs. Funk this was NOT. Team Dragon Gate wins by virtue of not getting exploded.
The Take: Yes, it was supremely idiotic at times, but I watched this match (and this whole episode, really) with a big, stupid grin on my face. This was AMAZING spectacle, probably my favorite WSX match because it gave us great athleticism, ridiculous highspots, and over-the-top explosions. It was a perfect compound of everything you want from Wrestling Society X. A hell of a way to end the broadcast run.
The Vibes: Absolutely immaculate.
NEXT TIME: We’re not done yet! We’ll have one more episode of WSXtra, featuring FOUR WAY TAG ACTION, and some bonus stuff after that.
